Wear United FC Youth Teams had their first home game of the season on Saturday against a new team to our division in Shildon AFC Whites. A complete unknown but the lads knew they had to knuckle down and do their best if they wanted to win the game.

The first 10 minutes were at deadlock with both teams working hard, however Shildon were the better team in the opening exchanges and got the first goal of the game with a lovely finish across the keeper to make it 1-0.

This seemed to wake Wear up! In the 18th minute, Junior carried the ball into acres of space and fired a long range effort into the bottom corner with precision and power to make it 1-1.

From here, Wear started passing the ball excellently and pinned Shildon in their own half. Shildon were defending resiliently and made some good saves, until the 29th minute when Aidan found himself through on goal. The keeper managed to parry the initial shot but it landed straight back to Aidan’s feet who chipped it in to give Wear the lead. 2-1.

It took just another 5 minutes for Zak to find himself in the box with players surrounding him, but fired a ticket into the top of the net to give Wear a 3-1 half time lead.

The second half was a different story as Shildon came out fighting and made it very difficult for Wear to get any passing movements together, constantly pressing.

It took just two minutes from the restart for Shildon to pull a goal back with a nice finish into the bottom right corner. 3-2.

Just five minutes later Shildon were level after beating Wear’s defence with a nice through ball and it was game on. 3-3.

It was end to end stuff from that point with both teams having chances to score, but it was Wear who found the back of the net after a lovely ball into the box finding Alfie sprinting in from the wing to score a stunning low drive across the keeper and giving Wear the win on the 62nd minute. 4-3.

All in all a very entertaining game between two good teams who both wanted the win. A massive team performance from Wear who had to dig deep and work for each other to keep the 100% record for the start of the season, and now 8 games unbeaten including preseason!

Mo and Son’s Barbers Player of the Match went to Junior who ran the show in midfield and scored a brilliant goal. ?
