United took on Grindon in the cup hoping to improve from the 5-1 defeat they suffered in the league a couple of weeks ago and the lads definitely deserved to get something out of this game
United took the lead on 15 minutes when Ian Pattison crossed the ball into the box and it was parried out as far as Richy Bland who placed the ball into the net
Grindon drew level four minutes later when a cross was converted although the goal scorer looked to be in an offside position
United regained the lead just before half time when Steve Walls looked to have been fouled in the box with the referee not given anything but the ball rolled out to Ian Pattison, 30 yards from goal, and Ian lofted the ball perfectly with his left foot over the keeper and into the net
United though conceded again two minutes later with another suspiciously looking offside goal which was allowed to stand. 2-2
The second half seen both teams have chances but neither team converted and the match went to penalties
Steve Walls, Stu Bowman, Richy Bland, Colin Hagan & Kev Philliskirk all scored with Grindon also scoring their 5 as well
Grindon scored the 11th penalty to lead on sudden death but Mick Smith smashed the ball home to level it at 6-6
Grindon made it 7 perfect penalties and then Ian Pattison stepped up but seen his penalty saved and Grindon progressed to the next round
Great effort from everyone though and a draw at the final whistle is an improvement from 2 weeks ago
