Vedra returned to league action today after having last week's fixture called off. Callum was missing today and so Oscar and Logan volunteered to share goalkeeping duties for today's game.
Vedra were very slow starting today and Coxhoe dominated the first half scoring 4 goals without Vedra creating a chance beyond a couple of corners that evaded everyone. Joey worked very hard down the left and Ollie H was very relaxed at the back but overall it was a poor first half that saw Vedra go in 0-4 down.
The half time team talk did focus on what had gone wrong but the team were set the task to put things right and at the very least score the goal we had been lacking for the last few weeks. The team certainly seemed to take that on board as they started the second half very well. Oscar who had swapped goalkeeping duties with Logan at half time, had a good run but didn't shoot when he had the chance. This was followed in the 34th minute by Vedra's first goal in what had seemed like a long time.
Finlay won a free kick on the right which was taken by Sam. The ball found it's way through to Oscar who poked it to Joey who finished well to put Vedra in the game. 1-4.
This really gave Vedra some confidence. Logan had to be quick off his line to save but at this time Vedra were suddenly getting challenges in and putting Coxhoe under some pressure. This was typified by their second goal. Sam made his way through 3 tackles before creating just enough room to fire a shot goalwards. The Coxhoe keeper saved brilliantly but Joey was on hand to volley home tidily to make it 2-4.
At this point it looked like it was game on and Vedra could snatch something. It wasn't to be though as just a few minutes later Coxhoe made a great forward run. Just as the first half the Vedra defence backed off and the Coxhoe winner finished well. 2-5.
The game was put beyond any doubt a couple of minutes later as another good run from Coxhoe looked to have been stopped by a great sliding tackle from Sam. The ball however bobbled towards a Coxhoe striker before Olly T or Logan could get there and they poked home, 2-6.
It could have been worse 2 minutes later but Logan made a great save at full length. Vedra were pushing forwards but weren't able to create any more clear cut chances and the game finished 2-6.
The second half effort and skill from Vedra should give them more confidence going into the last 3 games of the season. Logan was awarded Star Player from the Coxhoe coach for his goalkeeping performance. Sam was given star man from our coach though special mention should also go to Corah and Jacob for excellent second half effort and tackling.
