An away game today for the Yellows at Gateshead Fell who were flying high at the top of the league. The game started brilliantly for the home side as they went ahead after 2 minutes after 3 chances to clear were not taken by Wear.
The Yellows almost responded immediately as Mason's cross found Sam at the far post whose shot hit the side netting. The windy conditions were making it hard for both teams to create chances and it wasn't until the 19th minute that the next chance came. Sean chased a ball over the top and challenged the Fell keeper in the air. The ball found it's way to Leon who scored from a couple of yards to make it 1.1.
The game was quite scrappy for the remainder of the half with Gateshead having the only clear chance as their left winger managed to beat Callum to the ball but shot wide with the goal open. Wear's best opportunity being a Finley header from a Sam corner.
The second half carried on in a similar fashion to the first. Gateshead had more of the ball and were in the Wear half for most of the play but good defending and Callum being quick off his line meant that for all of their territorial advantage they didn't really create any clear cut chances. In the end it was the Yellows that had the better chances to win in whit Lucas Bainbridge shooting over from a Sam Free-kick before good work from Reggie and great chipped pass from Mason saw Sean shoot just wide across the goal.
The tricky pitch and windy conditions did not make playing great football easy but both teams worked really hard in cancelling each other out.
Star Player this week went to Leon but there were good performances allround.
