Wear United Under 14s Yellow 2 V 1 Shincliffe Juniors

Kevin Philliskirk28 Mar - 13:45

Late drama sees Yellows win.

The Yellows were back to early action with their first week to week games of 2026 as they had a full squad to face Shincliffe. The windy conditions and bobbly pitch made for the game being down to moments and hard work. Shincliffe started the better of the two and Callum had to make 2 good saves early in the game before Shincliffe went ahead with a really well struck shot after 15 minutes to make it 0-1.
Wear had started quite well still and Ryan and Sean linked well with Reggie who had a shot blocked before his follow up was saved by the Shincliffe keeper. Sam and Lucas had shot's wide before later in the half, Mason and Oscar linked up to put a cross in for Thomas. His shot hammered off the bar and Sam couldn't connect with the follow up and Ryan's shot from the edge of the box hit the post so the game was 0-1 at Half-time.
The Yellows had played well and not had the last little bit of quality but went into the second half with a lot of confidence to turn things around. They dominated possession and territory in the second half but were just lacking the final touch or shot. Reggie put a good cross in which saw Sam's shot brilliantly saved and Oscar's follow up over the bar. Just as it looked like they would go away empty handed and Shincliffe's brilliant defensive work would pay off for them, the Yellows turned things around in the final three minutes.
Firstly pressing from Sean saw the ball fall to Finley, who found Sam just outside the box. Sam turned onto his left foot and then shot into the far left corner to make it 1-1. Momentum was with the Yellows and the lads kept the ball going from a free-kick, the ball was then delivered into the box. Finley's touch was going wide before Thomas darted in at the back post to score and win the game 2-1 for the Yellows.
The result was probably just about deserved for the Yellows but was at the same time hard on Shincliffe who worked so hard in defence. There was a number of good performances but Star Player went to Mason who worked so hard when he came onto the pitch.
