The Yellows were back in action after another long break to play away against Chester Le Street in Great Lumley. The lads were missing a few players today but were looking to get back into league action with a win.
The lads started really well and after already creating a couple of half chances, Joey laid the ball off to Sam who passed it into the net to make it 0-1 after 2 minutes.
The good form continued and 2 minutes later a through ball from Sam saw Reggie run through and score brilliantly into the far corner to make it 0-2.
Oscar and Joey then had half chances before Lucas smacked a shot against the bar and Reggie was first to the loose ball to tap home. 0-3 after a brilliant opening 10 minutes for the Yellows playing in their blue away kit.
Chester suddenly got back into the game a minute later when a good through ball was well finished on the volley by their on-rushing striker 1-3. CLS followed this by hitting the post from an offside position but in general it was Wear that finished the half stronger. Again Joey and Oscar had a couple of half chances, Lucas, Ollie and Sam had shots from deep before Joey took down a good Callum kick brilliantly before turning and playing a lovely through ball to Reggie who went through to calmly claim a first half hattrick and make the score 1-4 at half-time.
The second half started in very similar fashion to the first. Wear increased their lead in the 39th minute with a great team goal. Olly won the ball on the edge of his own box and calmly turned and played the ball into Sam. He turned and played a lovely ball in between the centre half and full back for Reggie to run onto. Reggie played a great cross across the box for Joey to calmly tap in at the back post. A great team goal 1-5.
CLS were also playing well in this half and the defence of Callum D, Olly, Kaden and Riley all had to be alert to give Callum in the goal a quiet day.
The next goal fell to Sam having a short run up front. The ball was won back in the midfield and made its way to Sam. Sam beat a man on the edge of the box and curled the ball into the far corner to make it 1-6.
Just afterwards Chester scored another great goal with a strike from the edge of the box into the top corner. 2-6 after 61 minutes. from that point on it looked like Wear would score again and they did eventually when Ollie's shot from the edge of the box was "too hot to handle" for the Chester keeper and it went in. 7-2 with around 8 minutes to go could have seen further goals. Jacob had a couple of good runs, Callum had a nice shot from distance and there was a succession of corners but in the end 2-7 was the end of the scoring.
Overall a great performance from the lads which made the Star Player award a difficult one. In the end Reggie won it for a hattrick and an assist but it shows how good everyone played when someone with those statistics only just won the award above several of his team mates.
