The Yellows were back in action after no fixture last week with a full squad to play Whickham Fellside who were currently top of the league.
The game started well for sides with Whickham passing the ball nicely and Wear looking dangerous going forward. Ollie H and Joey both played great through balls for Reggie and Riley to go onto but good goalkeeping from the Whickham striker closed them down. Joey had a decent shot saved and Whickham had some good attacks too. Good defending from all the lads and couple of good saves from Callum in the Wear goal kept the game at 0-0 at Half time.
The second half started badly for the Yellows as Oscar received a red card putting the lads down to 10 men. The lads pulled themselves together with Lucas in particular leading the team well immediately after the sending off. The defence weathered the initial storm which gave the option to switch to a 4-3-2 formation with the introduction of Sam, Sean and Riley D.
this seemed to prove successful as it was the Yellows who looked the most likely to score. Joey had 2 headers cleared off the line from corners and Riley hit the post. Callum still had to be alert in the Yellows goal and Olly T, Jacob and Callum D deserve praise for their defending. Slightly against the run of play Whickham scored with a looping shot with more than a little suspicion of offside to make it 0-1 with 5 minutes to go. Lucas game back on and Riley B was pushed up front to chase an equaliser. Riley and Joey but had chances but one went wide and one was saved and the game ended 0-1.
Star player was shared by the 2 Rileys but in reality it could have gone to anyone. All 15 players did their bit and they were very unlucky to end on the losing side in a very competitive match between 2 decent sides.
