Back to league action for Vedra today as they were at Downhill to play The Albion with a full squad that included 5 subs for the first time in a long time.
The game started well as Mick Graham was gifted possession on the edge of the box and chipped the keeper to put Vedra up after 6 minutes. Unfortunately this seemed to be a sign that the game would be easy and Vedra switched off for much of the rest of the half. Albion took full advantage of this and scored 3 goals. Ollie Cowie had a couple of chances but in general it had been a poor half for Vedra and they deservedly went in at half-time 3.1 down.
The second half was much better. Straight away Jamie Coates and Ben Anderson had shots saved before Graham scored his second of the game to make it 3.2 after 50 minutes. Albion scored a good goal to put them 4.2 ahead before Jamie Coates pulled 2 goals back to make the scores level, both assisted by Mick Graham.
At this point it looked like it was only going to be Vedra that won the game. Unfortunately though it was not to be as Albion broke away and their striker was brought down by Keeper Tom Chapman. It was arguable if it was inside or outside the box, in the end the referee decided that it was inside and thus not sending the keeper off. Albion scored the penalty and took the 3 points with them.
A poor first half cost the lads today. Jamie Coates, Ben Anderson and Ben McRory had good games but it was Michael Graham that picked up the man of the match award for 2 goals and 2 assists.
