Vedra were in cup action this week against FC Romanos from a higher division and were down to just 11 players with a large number of players unavailable for various reasons. This meant that Stu Bowman was back in and there were debuts for Charlie Mills in defence and Harry Powell up front.
The first half was very good from Vedra with the lads working hard to keep Romanos at bay and creating a few chances themselves. Romanos did have a goal disallowed for offside but it was Vedra who went in ahead at half-time after Mick Graham sent Jamie Coates away to round the keeper and score in the 40th minute.
Romanos changed a lot of players at half-time and were much better. Vedra held firm for the first 10-15 minutes of the half but some good play saw Romanos equalise from inside the box.
Just afterwards it almost got worse for Vedra as Romanos were awarded a penalty on 65 minutes. Fortunately Tom Chapman was up to the challenge and made a great save to keep things level.
Further great defending, notable from Bowman and Ben Anderson kept the scores level but in the end Romanos fresher legs told as they went into the lead with 14 minutes to go.
Vedra did their best to get back into it but they struggled to create anything too clear cut and in reality it looked like Romanos might increase their lead. Tom Chapman made some good saves and the score finished 2-1.
A great effort from the lads. Mick Graham got Star Player this week but there were good performances all over the pitch.
